Job Description

We are in need of a UX Writer who will translate and convey software concepts, features, steps and processes into messaging and content that can be easily understood by different audiences, across a number of different platforms and use cases. This includes using a number of different methods to convey meaning and to communicate – in-application guides, tours, first-time-use and empty states, on-screen tips, knowledgebase articles and how-to videos.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain a deep and detailed understanding of products, and the contexts, aptitudes, demographics, and learning needs of end users
  • ● Analyse new product features as they emerge from development cycles, understand their target audiences and identify the stages or levels of engagement that users will have with them, and the learning outcomes required at each stage
  • ● Devise concepts and narratives to communicate to end users the capability, utility and value that new features offer, and how to use them
  • ● Maintain knowledge of modern trends and best practices regarding communication to, and training of, software end-users, and apply that knowledge in your work including suggestions for improvements
  • ● Take a methodical and structured approach to describe product features in line with established templates, formats and guides
  • ● Write release notes, knowledgebase articles, in-application messages or tours, How-To-Video (HTV) scripts and ad-hoc product copy that clearly explain product features or changes to the appropriate audience, using the correct language, style and tone, and appropriate level of detail
  • ● Produce HTVs using screen and audio capture and editing tools, coordinating the work of voice-over resources, and following standards and guidelines for video and audio capture and editing
  • ● Provide Marketing, Business Development, Solution Consulting and Professional Services with authoritative product information and content, in formats appropriate for their uses and audiences
  • ● Administer client-facing help and eLearning management system, ensuring content is well organized, appropriately categorised and is accessible
  • ● Monitor support questions, knowledgebase feedback, and feedback from Professional Services teams to identify areas for improvement in our product communications and training
  • ● Provide briefings to other functions about new product features or changes
  • ● Support the release of new versions or features, by ensuring content is ready when needed to support the product lifecycle and marketing
  • ● Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to ensure that you are aware of upcoming features and understand their intent, benefits, and timing
  • ● Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously, and work independently and collaboratively with product managers, analysts and developers, marketing staff and general management
  • ● Collaborate effectively with marketing staff to ensure that all products are on brand and aligned with standards and styles and that marketing has the inputs they need to plan and execute product marketing initiatives


  • 5 + years’ experience in software technical writing
  • ● Experience producing software tour or training videos, including hands-on screen capture & basic video/audio editing
  • ● Tertiary degree in arts, communications, instructional design, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • ● Experience with producing software communications and training materials as part of a product development cycle
  • ● A strong portfolio of written work that demonstrates and ability to clearly articulate to different audiences, in different styles and levels of detail
  • ● Experience in writing marketing copy or creative concept development
  • ● Experience in graphic design
  • ● Experience in instructional design, education or training
  • ● Experience in MadCap Flare Software tool
