Job Summary:
We design, manufacture, and install pump stations, packaged pump sets, and pipework for the Australian water and wastewater industry, with all design work done in Autodesk Inventor.
We are looking for an experienced Inventor engineer to lead how our design office uses the software. You will build the automation, libraries, and drafting standards our team works from, design fabricated components yourself, and check them with linear-static FEA.
You will own the templates, libraries and configurators our drafters use, review their drawings against our standards, and help set up Autodesk Vault, which we are preparing to introduce.
Pumping and piping experience is essential. You should have designed pump stations, skids, or similar equipment and understand how pumps, valves, flanged pipework, and supports fit together.
Key Responsibilities
Design automation and CAD standards
- ●Develop iLogic rules, forms and configurators that generate standard pump station, skid and pipework assemblies and drawings from inputs such as station size, pump model, pipe size and cover type.
●Set up and maintain Content Center libraries for pipe, flanges, fittings, valves, fasteners, structural sections and purchased parts, with properties for accurate BOMs.
●Maintain Inventor drafting standards, including templates, title blocks, styles, sheet formats, BOM structure, part numbering, file naming,g and model check rules.
●Train the drafting team on these standards and check drawings before issue.
Mechanical design and analysis
- ●Design steel and stainless steel skids, base frames, supports, brackets, platforms and handrails using Frame Generator and weldments.
● Design sheet metal covers, lids, enclosures, guards and switchboard housings with correct bend allowances and flat patterns.
● Run linear-static stress, deflection and frame analysis on frames, supports, lifting lugs and covers using Inventor Stress Analysis, Frame Analysis orNastran,, recording results in calculation notes for review.
● Prepare GA and fabrication drawings, BOMs and cut lists for our workshop and fabricators.
● Model pipework and valve arrangements in Frame Generator where suitable.
Data management and documentation
- ●Help set up Autodesk Vault, including folder structure, file naming, lifecycle states, release workflow and libraries.
● Use feedback from the workshop, fabricators and site to improve templates, libraries and configurators.
● Document all standards, libraries, and automation so the team can maintain them.
Qualification and Requirements
Essential
- ●Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
● 7+ years using Autodesk Inventor as your main design tool, including 3+ years on fabricated steel, stainless, or sheet metal products.
● Proven pumping and piping experience designing pump sets, pump stations, skids, pipework or valve arrangements, with good knowledge of pumps, valves, flanges, fittings and pipe supports.
● Strong iLogic skills (rules, forms and parameter-driven configurations), with examples you can show us.
● Experience creating and administering Content Center libraries, templates and standards for a team.
● Advanced Inventor skills in parts, assemblies, Frame Generator, Sheet Metal, and drawings.
● Hands-on linear-static FEA on fabricated structures, with sound knowledge of load paths, bolted and welded connections, and carbon steel, 304/316 stainless steel, and aluminium.
● Excellent written and spoken English.
Desirable
- ●Knowledge of AS 1100, AS 4100, AS 1657 and AS/NZS 1554.
● Inventor API or add-in development in VB.NET or C#.
● Autodesk Vault setup or administration.
● Experience with sewage or stormwater pump stations and water infrastructure.
● Tube and Pipe module and AutoCAD for older 2D drawings
We would especially be looking for:
- ●Strong Autodesk Inventor skills, including iLogic, Content Center library creation, Frame Generator, Sheet Metal, and weldments.
●Experience in Fabricated steel and sheet metal design (skids, base frames, pipe supports, enclosures).
●Hands-on FEA experience using Inventor Stress Analysis, Frame Analysis, or Nastran.
●Experience setting up and maintaining drafting standards for a team.
●A background in the pumping and piping industry.
