About The Role

This is a new role created to support our Purchasing Manager. She owns the purchasing function, supplier relationships, and final approval of what we buy. The Demand & Inventory Planner takes on the demand planning discipline underneath that: forecasting, stock positioning across our warehouses, order timing, and arrival-date accuracy.

The role exists to keep stock available for our customers first, and to make our stock holding more efficient second. We currently hold around six months of stock; the goal is to bring that to three and a half to four months while holding order fulfilment at 97% or better. Those two targets pull against each other, and this role owns the balance between them.

Key Responsibilities

Demand planning and replenishment

    • ●Forecast demand and recommend what to order, when and how much, using run rates, usage, upcoming projects and stock cover by SKU and by warehouse.
●Prepare and raise purchase orders for the Purchasing Manager’s approval and manage them through to receipt.
●Manage product lifecycle: wind down declining finishes cleanly, scale up rising ones, and flag slow-moving stock.
      Stock in the right location
●Allocate imported stock between Perth and Brisbane based on where customers are (ship-to location), not where past orders happened to ship from.
●Run a regular bulk transfer between warehouses to correct imbalances, so orders ship in full from one location rather than being split across both. Currently around 27% of orders are split; the goal is to eliminate that.

Arrival dates and backorders

    • ●Own the accuracy of expected arrival dates in our ERP end to end: from order placement, through factory completion and freight, to receipt into the warehouse.
●Chase suppliers on production dates before goods are on the water and keep dates updated the day they change, including air freight and other shipments outside the standard freight process.
●Build realistic local handling buffers into dates so that the dates our customer care team quote can be relied on.

New products and finishes

    • ●When we launch a new product or finish with no sales history, build a seeding recommendation using comparable past launches and commercial judgement, and back it with a considered call rather than defaulting to the minimum.
●Bring the numbers and the gut feel together: “this is what the data suggests, and this is what I think we should do”.
      Working with AI
●Use AI tools daily to do the heavy analytical lifting: cleaning and merging data, building formulas and scripts, reconciling supplier documents, drafting supplier follow-ups.
●Present the Purchasing Manager with clear, ready-to-approve recommendations and exceptions, not raw data.

Requirments

    • ●Qualification. A degree in purchasing, supply chain, logistics, industrial engineering, finance, or accountancy.
●Experience. Professional demand planning, replenishment,t or inventory analysis experience in a multi-location wholesale or distribution business.
●Systems. Hands-on experience with an ERP and an inventory optimisation or forecasting tool. The business runs Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Netstock; experience with either is a strong advantage.
●Data skills. Strong Excel and data analysis capability — comfortable combining datasets to get at the real answer, not just the report the system produces.
●AI. A demonstrable track record of using AI in your analytical work — specific examples of tasks AI now does for you and what that changed. We see AI as a jetpack for the job, and we expect you already treat it that way.
●English. Excellent written and spoken English. You will be dealing with overseas factories, our freight forwarder and Australian colleagues every day.
●Judgement. Versatile and commercially minded. You understand that in a design-led business the numbers are the starting point, not the whole answer, and you are comfortable making a call and owning it.
●Trust. You will be given real purchasing responsibility. That requires someone who takes the financial side as seriously as the availability side.
